Boy's, boy's boy's

Monday, March 31, 2014

I love being a mother to my four fun loving boy's. I was riding with Cruz the other day and he was asking about our grandma Lila, and great grandpa Joe. He said, "mom you know they are angel's in heaven now watching over us". I responded 'yes' and asked where he heard that. He said, "my brother Cole told me that". I thought Awww, just when you think they are not listening. I learned to never stop talking to them, and teaching them all the lessons you want them to learn because they are listening:).

Gardening with Epsom Salt

Thursday, March 27, 2014

Epsom salt has so many things that it can be used for, from a detox bath to using it in your garden. I use it for both.  I am going to show you a before picture of my raspberry plant.
I took this picture on March 9th 2014.

I took this picture on March 22nd 2014. Just 13 day's later. What is my secret??

The magnesium and sulfur that comprise Epsom salt helps your plants grow greener, produce higher yields and have more blooms! Isn't that amazing? What tips do you have? Do you use Epsom salt in your garden? Let me know if anyone has any before and after pictures they want to share. Happy Gardening!!

Garden Tips for a Plush Garden

Monday, March 24, 2014

So what an amazing weekend we had. It was full of sun and laughter, and 3 little boy's out weeding and catching bugs:). It is so amazing to watch how little boy's play, because they are so different than I was when I was out playing as a little girl. I would not dare catch a bumble bee with my bare hands, but my boy's do if they are dared enough times by there brother:).

Proud bumble bee catcher number one

Proud bumble bee catcher number two

Here are my two working so hard to get our garden looking good.

This is what one of them looks like all the way weeded. Here come the tips.........
Place an entire uncooked egg under the soil and plant your tomato plant right on top of it. It will give the tomato plant the calcium it needs. Genius and easy right? We also use banana peels, coffee grounds, and blended eggs. I will show you that in another post.

Get out there and enjoy this sun.

Spring has Sprung

Friday, March 21, 2014

Spring is here!! I love the spring time because everything comes to life. The bird's sing, the flowers blossom, the sun starts to shine, and the best part is we get to start our family garden. I will show you my before pictures, and I will show how it blossoms into this beautiful garden full of edible food, buzzing bees, butterflies, and 3 little boy's that can't leave their fingers out of the garden, (the best part of it all).

Wow, these look sad, but you will see them transform into beautiful green gardens. We start most everything from seed, that way the boy's get to watch them sprout. I will weed this weekend, and start planting my cold weather veggies. I am trying to decide if I should herbs for tea in one box this year, and our veggies in another. Stay tuned because I have not decided yet.   What do you plant in your garden?  Do you have any tips, or secrets you want to share? I do, but that will come later.

Happy Spring!!!

Onto to the Bookshelves

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

So I painted the bookshelves white.  Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to show you because I have to down load if from my camera, andI need my husband to show me how to do that:). Anyway I didn't like it all white so I decided to give it a pop of color. I found this great color from Benjamin Moore

So I added this to the back of the bookshelves.

Here is a picture before the shelves were put back in.

Here is the bookshelf put back together. I totally love it! I also painted repainted my back door this amazing color.

It is hard to get good lighting of this door, but trust me it looks great.

Lastly I added the color into one of my open cabinets with my dishes.

Now my question is should I repaint my island the same color? Cousin what do you think?

I love the above saying, along with the trees in the background. It reminds me of a skyline from California, and since my younger brother lives their it makes me smile every time I see it.

This  Picture just looks like fun. Do you remember being a kid with no responsibility, and acting carefree? I love these 3 little people, and I'm so glad they are able to enjoy the little things.

Happy Saturday to all.......... Today do what makes your soul shine:).

Build a Vintage Ladder

Friday, March 14, 2014

So I have been wanting a vintage ladder for some time now, so after surfing the internet and Pinterest I came across a tutorial at ourvintagehomelove.blogspot.com. They have a great tutorial, so we followed theirs, but put our own twist on it.

Here is what you will need....
Two 1 1/4 inch dowels and two 1 x 4's 6 feet in length from your local building center, I got mine from Home Depot.

Here are my cut dowels. Cut with a miter saw into 5 equal pieces. You will need 5, and they should be 16 inched in length.

Measure and mark each location of the 5 dowel pieces. Center and mark the first piece, then measure 14 inches each direction and mark the locations of the next 2 pieces. Next, measure 14 inches from each of those spots, and mark your final location. They should both be approx. 8 inches from each end.

Using a drill with a 1 1/4 inch spade bit, drill your hole, making sure not to drill through the board.
Put the dowels into the newly drilled holes add wood glue before inserting them, and secure them with a screw.
Before staining the ladder add wood putty to the outside of the screw and sand as necessary. Now you can stain your ladder any color you choose. I tend to use a lot of minwax products, so I went with dark walnut and ebony. A big thank you to my husband because he did all the work, and I absolutely love him, and our new ladder.

DIY Picture Frame

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

I wanted to make a rustic picture frame for my bathroom. I did this last summer when I was 6 months pregnant. It was not hard to do, and I love the way it turned out. I have old photo's attached of my great grandmother, and my grandmother when she was pregnant with my mom. I don't think there could be a more special picture. It looks a little crooked, but I think it was the way I was holding my camera. This picture does show me that I need to change the color in this bathroom. I will put that on my long to do list:/.

Happy Birthday Rosie

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

I am in love with map art lately, so now that my good friend Rosie has had (I'm a few day's late) a birthday. I thought I would come up with something for her from her home town of Pittsburgh. I looked at ideas off of Pinterest and came up with my own spin.

I thought the steeler's colors would be perfect because she is a big fan. What do you think?

Did Someone say too Many Paint Fumes Makes you Smarter.........

Monday, March 10, 2014

Hahahaha, just kidding too many paint fumes does not make you smarter:). I however am getting tired of painting:/.  I'm going on almost 2 years of painting, but it does pay off when you are finished. Here is our back door.

By the way Scott likes it;). I will be happy when we find the perfect gray to paint that side wall, kitchen, and TV room.
Who would of known there were all these different grays.
I am also painting all the trim white, and the bookcase way at the other end of this photo.  My photographer (AKA the husband)
had to go work his other job today, so my pictures are dark......Sorry!!

The painting and the remodel of the kitchen and living room continues.........

Saturday, March 8, 2014

I'm very impatient so I had to start painting right away. The lighting is poor so it's hard to tell. What do you think? Modesty? Christy? Ed? I know you all read my blog;). The husband ran to Lowe's so I painted as fast as I could:). I'm sure he will love it!!

Ok, so the latest is..... the husband said, "no way hosea" to the burnt oragne......sigh!! Anyone who has been married for awhile knows one of the key ingredients to a successful marriage is COMPROMISE. I came up with this color, or I should say I walked over to my friend and neighbor Shannon's house and she handed me this color because it is not going to work for her current painting project. Thank my sweet friend:). I'm not sure what I would do without her.

So here is the before picture of our back door. I'm going to prime it white today, and hopefully find a color I and the hub's can agree on :). Im leaning toward a burnt orange. What do you guy's think?

How do you start your day?

Thursday, March 6, 2014

This morning I went to early morning  hot yoga. By early I mean I had to wake up at 5:30 to be there at 6 am. Not the toughest to do, but since I get up in the middle of the night to feed Roman It was a bit of a chore. I think I drove there with one eye open.). It's not like when your in your 20's and you stay out til 3 am knowing you have to get up at 6 am to be to work. Ahhh, how I miss the freedom of those days.

Here is Jen and I with our post yoga glow, by that I mean our sweat. It was a 100 degrees in there, but you feel so good afterward.

Healthy Lifestyle Tip

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

The benefits from a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a day.

Weight loss

Apple cider vinegar may aid in weight loss by stabilising the blood sugar for a longer period and helping to control the appetite. Try taking 1-2 teaspoons in water before each meal. This little trick may also help with diabetes. Don’t just rely on ACV to help you trim down though. It won’t work if your diet is rubbish. ACV should be an accompaniment to a healthy, balanced diet.
Digestion
Aiding digestion is possibly one of apple cider vinegar’s biggest claims to fame. It can help with common indigestion and gastrointestinal discomfort caused by certain foods and it is said to clear up chronic acid reflux when taken religiously with each meal.
Skin problems
Apple cider vinegar can be used as a topical astringent for acne prone skin, and some even report that taking ACV orally every day has helped clear their skin. Add a cup of apple cider vinegar and a cup of Epsom salts to a hot bath to draw toxins out through the skin and help jump start the cleansing process. This can also help relieve joint pain as well as skin conditions like eczema and acne.
Warding off sickness
Apple cider vinegar devotees claim that this miracle elixir is one of the main reasons they are able to ward of common illnesses. This can most likely be chalked up to ACV’s unique blend of vitamins, minerals and enzymes. It also possesses antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. There are so many more benefits, I just listed a few to get everyone's attention.
How to take your apple cider vinegar …
Add 1-3 teaspoons of to a glass of warm water before each meal. You can also add it to hot water with a little honey and drink it as a tea. Apple cider vinegar is also great as a salad dressing when mixed with flaxseed oil and honey.

It’s important to buy an apple cider vinegar that is organic and unfiltered so that all of its nutritional value is in tact. We buy Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar (right). The hazy looking stuff that settles to the bottom is called “the mother” and it’s said to be the most nutritious part of the apple cider vinegar for its therapeutic benefits.

How do you take apple cider vinegar? Have you noticed its benefits? Let me know if anyone has anything to add, I love hearing stories about what it's done for your health, or how you consume it.

Easy DIY Project~ Fabric Covered Cork board

Sunday, March 2, 2014

The best place to get ideas for a friend for her birthday is........ why Pinterest of course;). That is where I got the idea for this project. My friend had a birthday this week so I went to her pinterest boards to see what ideas I could come up with. This is what caught my eye, a fabric covered cork board. She has been decorating her new place, sooo I thought  knew it would be perfect.

So Friday off to Hobby Lobby. I went right when they opened to get the needed supplies, because the husband and I were having a date night that night, and I knew I would be doing this project late friday night when we got home (I love you Christy). Actually, it was not that hard, and the hub's helped me, so it turned out to be a lot fun.

How cute is that!! Dare I make another one for myself?!?! What do you think? Yes, I know the above  picture is a bit blurry, but you get the idea:).
